NC Granite is the world’s largest open-face granite quarry is found in Mount Airy. Many of the city’s homes, churches and businesses are made from the black speckled, white granite. An observation point at the quarry gives visitors a panoramic view of the quarry and its workers.

It has other interesting distinctions. Astronauts circling the world can see it from outer space, it is so big. It has been designated the “World’s Largest Open Faced Quarry”.

Come visit the observation deck where you can see nearly all the activities and are close enough to be plenty startled when we set off an explosion—which occurs several times each day. The observation deck can be reached by car, and access is open without restriction each day that the quarry is in operation, including weekends, during the daylight hours.
