Levering Orchard-FRUIT PICKING!

Spend the day picking fruit at The Levering Orchard in Ararat, Virginia located only 12 miles from  to Downtown Mount Airy!

Directions to Levering Orchard from Downtown Mount Airy:
From downtown Mount Airy, follow Wards Gap Road (VA 679) north to Orchard Gap Road (VA 691). Straight ahead on left.

This year's crop survived two freezes, so we feel very fortunate to offer you great fruit this year! The cherry bloom was later than normal, hence our start date for both sweet and sour cherry picking is a little later than usual. (Usually bloom dates and harvest dates correlate) Keep in mind, however, that even though we will begin picking June 4, because we have so many varieties, all of which ripen at different times, you won't miss out on cherries if you don't get to the orchard those first few days we're picking. In fact, in all likelihood -- depending on the weather -- we won't hit full stride until after June 10. And we don't expect sour cherries -- the kind many folks want for pies -- until June 20th or thereabouts. If this year is a normal year, there should be plenty of sweet cherries available at the same time we're picking the sours. And it could well be quite a long picking season, depending on weather. One year we picked cherries until July 10. Many other years we've picked through the 4th of July and later. So please don't think we're going to "run out" after the first days of cherry picking!

Listed below are the dates we anticipate as "start dates" for picking and selling our different fruits. With the exception of June 4, these are ESTIMATED start dates -- it's very hard to be sure a long ways ahead of time, because of weather and other factors. Sometimes we have to begin a little sooner than we estimated, at other times, a little later, to let the fruit ripen. Mother Nature can be fickle. So phoning or e-mailing ahead before you come is STRONGLY ADVISED!
